Don't worry if you can't see the new site and want to leave a comment or trackback as it will be transferred to the new site. You can also still subscibe to the feed (comment alerts will not work).

I think I've finally cracked the redirection problem for external links so I've decided to go for it and move over to the new WordPress blog. It should take a day or two to fully propagate, so this will be the last post for a while as I don't think it's a good idea to create any new urls while the DNS is updating. I will be using the time though to get more familiar with the WordPress interface and finding a theme I like to start customising.
I would like to thank SiteGround for all their help, in particular Terry. They may not have phone support but every ticket I have raised has been responded to and usually closed within 5 minutes. If they are unable to close ... more »

Click here to see the new site (still WIP)!
I'm in the process of moving the blog to WordPress. Hopefully this will be completed by the end of the weekend. This version will still be operational so no comments will be lost, but the new site is now live at the new address (its a mirror at the moment). I'm trying to set everything up so that all the external links will port across and I think I've got it cracked so I'm planning on moving the nameservers tomorrow so all the content will be on the right domain name. Once I've got everything working, then I'll start playing with templates, plugins, tinkering etc. Let me know if you have any tips or WordPress stuff that I should try out.... more »

After a little bit over a year with
Blogware, I’ve decided
to move this blog to Wordpress. I've been more than happy
with Blogware
and I'd still recommend Blogware to anyone who wants a simple
hassle-free blog,
but over the last couple of months or so I've been getting a bit
uncomfortable
with the fact that this blog was originally given to me so that I could
evaluate Blogware's system and to learn about the blogosphere for work
purposes. Little did I know that I'd get hooked on blogging
and that Connected
Internet would grow to become one of Blogware's top blogs (I think on
some
days/months it has been number 1) and a major bandwidth hog.

I just got a notification on my screen saying that QuickTime 7.1 was available for download. This took me back as I'd totally forgotten that I even had QuickTime installed. I NEVER use QuickTime, unless I am forced to when watching a movie trailer or something similar from a website. Is there still a market for alternative music players or have Windows Media Player and iTunes sewn up the market? A few years ago Real seemed to be in a position to challenge Microsoft, but they appear to be floundering now. I really think that the other players have missed their chance, particularly as WMP can support just about all file formats now with the right plugins. more »

Tom's Hardware have published a review of Windows Vista after 500 hours worth of testing. I've just read through the review and although Windows Vista 'looks nice' I'm still struggling to find any killer features that I actually need that will make me upgrade.
I think the summary hits the spot for me: "It remains to be seen whether users will still enjoy the many coloured effects in Vista after they've seen them for a while, or will decide to turn them off in favour of a normal default Windows scheme with grey windows. Either way, Vista incorporates many small but effective changes that can help simplify work and also boost productivity for everyday tasks." I'm afraid I need more than that before I shell out $450. Read the review ... more »

I might have to do a daily post with a video of the day from YouTube. If you missed Peter Crouch's Robot celebration after scoring England's 3rd goal last night, then here's a video of Peter practicing his robot moves before the game. For those of you who don't know who Crouchy is, he's England's not-so-secret weapon for the World Cup that starts in 10 days, who stands at 6 feet 7 inches. He's a lanky git, but surprisingly he's turning out to be a decent player. more »

I got an email this morning from my old colleague and friend Philip Wilkinson, who founded Kelkoo UK, to see if I could help him recruit a VP of Marketing for his new startup Crowdstorm. I haven't spoken to Phil for a while so Crowdstorm came out of the blue for me, so I popped over to the website to have a nosy around. Crowdstorm looks quite interesting. It is designed to combat the fact that most price comparison sites expect shoppers to know what they already want. Price comparison sites are very useful tools when you want to find the cheapest prices and where to buy the product you actually want, but they are hopeless in helping you browse around. On Crowdstorm's blog, Phil states that "I often see bookshops as a really good example of how to try to help people.... more »

I'm not sure if I feel sorry for Microsoft. According to reports online piracy accounts for 25% of software sales globally, and Microsoft must be one of the biggest losers. Microsoft tries to combat this through the use of its Windows Genuine Advantage Tool, which verifies if the software you are using is genuine or counterfeit.
Microsoft have to constantly update this tool, as hacks are always available within hours via torrents and Usenet. I guess each update, like last nights, does eliminate novice users who don't know how to do this. I guess Microsoft will build better protection into Vista, making it harder to crack, in a similar manner to how they have appeared to have made the Xbox360 very hard to hack, unlike its predecessor. I'm not advocating ... more »

The growth of YouTube is having a strange knock-on effect on my inbox. Everyday I'm my inbox is being beseiged with funny videos. It reminds of the early days of email when I used to get 'funny' emails everyday from friends.
Well, here's the latest one which is a video of Bjork the wacky singer going berserk and kicking the ass of an innocent reporter, all set to a Streetfighter theme. Street Fighter Bjork Kicks Reporter Ass - Kotaku more »
